Isaiah 27:2-3 – In that day—
“Sing about a fruitful vineyard:
I, the Lord, watch over it;
I water it continually.
I guard it day and night
so that no one may harm it.”
All of us know what it is like to be let down. We put our trust in people who we expect to be faithful to us all the time and do only good to us, just to discover they are human have periods of unfaithfulness and times we experience more harm from them than good. God is the only one worthy of a level of trust that he will never be unfaithful and will only do good.
Isaiah 27 speaks of God not just watering his vineyard (Israel) every once in a while, but continually. It speaks of God not just guarding it occasionally, but day and night, all the time.
What human relationships do I need to have grace for today? Where did I put expectations on humans which could only be fulfilled by God? Where did I give up on friends or family for being human and lapsing into times of temporary unfaithfulness?
What do I need to entrust to the God is always faithful to me and works only for my good? Where do I hesitate to do so because I expect him to let me down just because all the humans in my life always let me down eventually?
Father, today I forgive the humans upon whom I placed expectations which could only be met by you. Today, I entrust to your care the areas of my life I have not given to you because I expect you to be unfaithful like the humans in my life. AMEN
